So, another Thanksgiving has come and gone leaving me with an extra 20 lbs on my already too round frame. It was a good day spent with JY's family. We told stories, laughed, ate way too much and just enjoyed the day. Thank you Deb for the wonderful meal that you prepared, for sending home most of the left overs, for having us up to share said meal and for being the best mother in law a girl could ask for!! I love ya!!
Besides spending time with family, Thanksgiving has been a day to share traditions. One of them was setting up the Christmas tree at G'ma amd G'pa Austin's house the evening of Thanksgiving, no matter where you were during the day, the evening was theirs for this special tradition. Now, this is a tradition started long before I came along and one that in the last couple of years I have to honestly say I haven't been party too. You know what they say about regrets, yeah I know...So as we were driving home I was reminded of how many good years were spent putting up that Christmas tree with the ancient ornaments and the silly looking elves (you know the one's I'm speaking of) and the joy that it brought G'ma Austin having her grandchildren (and then great grandchildren) there with her while she bossed us all around about where what ornament should go where. I wouldn't trade those memories for all the money in the world. Man, I miss them both.
Another tradition started maybe about 8-9 years ago with me and my BFF. Black Friday shopping. Yes, we're one of the crazy a$$es that partake in this crazy day just to save a couple of bucks. Well, more than a couple of bucks I'd say. And I'm going to interject right here and say, don't knock it until you try it. In our early years, we would get together, pour over the BF ads and make a game plan and then hurry home to get in a nap before getting up at an ungodly hour to go stand in line for the perfect gift. Well, if anyone knows the BFF and myself, you can see how this quickly becomes a laughable nightmare!! We were ALWAYS oversleeping. So about 3 years ago, we decided we would stay up all night, go out for breakfast somewhere close to where we had decided to start our day and be wrapped up by 1030a. Good plan, yeah us! The no sleeping for 32-36 hours is getting to us...I think we're getting to old to stay up all night. At least, I am. It didn't help that this year I came down with Bronchitis and Sinus Infection 3 days before said crazy a$$, stay up all night and then deal with b*tchy people who like to flip you off in the spirit of Christmas day, nice work LY. Today was a success as all the other years before, we got what was on our lists and JY got a bunch of new cooking stuffs to add to his kitchen same day instead of wrapping and putting under the tree for safe keeping until Christmas. That's not JY's style...so back to the drawing board for him :)
A five hour nap later and I'm good to go for a few more hours. Tomorrow is gonna be a tough one (who scheduled a vet appointment for Lybbi tomorrow morning, I'm gonna be hating life for sure!!).
I hope everyone had a fun, safe and wonderful holiday!
L
